On National Stress Awareness day, Wednesday 5th November 2008, HSE will launch an updated version of the HSE Management Standards Analysis Tool and User Manual. The main improvement in the new version is the option to benchmark against either data drawn from organisations in both the private and public sector, or the current data drawn from the Psychosocial Working Conditions (PWC) survey 2004. The revised Analysis Tool User Manual includes a full description of the two data sets. For a full appreciation of the functions and limitations please read the User Manual before using the Analysis Tool.

Environmental and Occupational Cancer Risks

It is vital that we get recognition and acknowledgement of the environmental and occupational risk factors for breast cancer if we are ever to make progress on stopping this disease before it starts. Early detection and treatment alone have failed to reduce the burden of this disease. Lifestyle changes cannot prevent a woman getting breast cancer whilst cancer causing agents and endocrine disruptors are allowed to build up in the environment and our bodies.

A petition has been put on-line and providing there are 200 signatures (hopefully a lot more) when it closes in October, it will be passed to officials who work for the Prime Minister in Downing Street, or sent to the relevant Government department for a response. Every person who signs the petition will receive an email detailing the Government's response to the issues raised.

It is intended to help a range of interested groups and individuals - whether they be lawyers, other advisors, bereaved families, trade unions, managers, employers or others - to understand the nature of the new offence, the type of organisations to which it applies, the circumstances that will lead to prosecution, areas in which the Act remains open to legal interpretation, and so on.
